DeKalb County locals collectively inspiring a greener future.

Climate change is a global issue in need of local solutions.

DeCarbon DeKalb is a neighbor-led nonprofit working to make climate action practical, joyful, and rooted right here in DeKalb County.

We believe real change happens when people feel connected to one another, confident in what they’re learning, and empowered to act locally. Our work brings neighbors together to learn, imagine, and build solutions that strengthen our community today-and for generations to come.

How We Do It

We bring climate action to life through a simple, human-centered approach:

We gather. We learn. We do.

Each of our programs plays a distinct role, together creating a year-round ecosystem for community-driven climate action.

Joy and hope?!

We take a decidedly cheeky approach as a way to engage and encourage. Whether your interest is in saving cash on energy usage, learning how the heck electric cars charge, discovering why there's carbon in your lunchbox, or capturing some of that crazy carbon in your own yard, join us for titillating discussions on these topics and more.

Building community is a requisite foundation for building a better world.

Our annual Earth Fest is a joyful, county-wide celebration of sustainability, care for place, and community connection.

Earth Fest is designed to be welcoming and accessible-bringing together families, local organizations, artists, educators, and neighbors who might not otherwise see themselves as part of “climate work.”

It’s where curiosity is sparked, hope is restored, and people begin to see climate action as something we do together.

Introducing the DeCarbon Dialogues!

The Decarbon Dialogues are a recurring discussion series hosted at the DeKalb Public Library.

These conversations create trusted spaces for neighbors to slow down, learn together, ask questions, and build shared understanding around climate and decarbonization.

Dialogues help turn curiosity into confidence, giving people the language, context, and relationships they need to imagine what’s possible locally.
